Working together on the UK's hardest challenges
A cross-sector platform bringing philanthropy, impact investment and purpose-driven business together to work in partnership with government on shared social and environmental priorities.
The UK faces some of the most complex public challenges in a generation. Government cannot meet them alone. It does not have to.
Across philanthropy, impact investment and purpose-driven business, the impact economy are already investing in and delivering solutions to these very problems — contributing an estimated £428 billion in Gross Value Added, around 15% of UK GDP, according to NPC’s Impact UK report.
For too long, these parts of the system have operated separately, which has made it harder for government to draw on their combined capability — and harder for the impact economy to translate intent into delivery.
The Impact Economy Collective was established to change that.
What we do
Cross-sector
partnership
We bring philanthropy, impact investment and purpose-driven business together as a single platform — making it easier for government and the impact economy to work as partners on shared priorities.
Practical
collaboration
We work on the policy challenges identified together with government, through co-design, convening and joint delivery — grounded in evidence and delivery experience.
Ideas into
implementation
We focus on practical pathways. Our work - including Policy Labs - is built around an implementation route, with named delivery partners and a clear plan for what happens next.
How we work
The Collective is hosted at the London School of Economics' Marshall Institute and convened by AchieveGood, which acts as its Secretariat. Together, with government partners, we design and run Policy Labs that turn policy questions into operational propositions — connecting the right capital, expertise and delivery capability around each one.
What we
have delivered
Since launch, the Collective has run Policy Labs with three government departments:
Best Start in Life: Family Hubs (with the Department for Education)
Fostering (with the Department for Education)
Pride in Place Programme (with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government)
Health and Growth (with the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England)
Cancer (with the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England)
Neighbourhood Health (with the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England)
In each case, work continues beyond the Lab itself as co-designed ideas move into implementation with government and partners from across the impact economy.
